Alterra Capital Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:ALTE) 28.18 +5.03 (21.73%). The insurance company Markel is buying Alterra Capital in a cash-and-stock deal worth nearly $3 billion. Markel Vice Chairman Steven Markel said Wednesday that Alterra's reinsurance and large account insurance portfolios will help to diversify the company. Alterra Capital Holdings Ltd. stockholders will receive $10 per share and will have the right to receive 0.04315 Markel common shares for each Alterra share they own. Markel said that this will give Alterra stockholders $31 per share, which is a 34 percent premium to the company's Tuesday closing price of $23.15. Alterra currently has about 96 million outstanding shares, according to FactSet.
National Bank of Greece (ADR) (NYSE:NBG) 1.88 +0.17 (9.94%). The company said that it would be involved in a large bond repurchase plan that intends to lower the country’s debt load, while securing the disbursement of its international bailout loans. The government will spend approximately €10 billion, or $13 billion, in the buyback, which will offer between 30% and 40% of the face value.
NII Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:NIHD) 7.34 +0.55 (8.10%) Zacks reissued neutral rating on NII Holdings. The firm currently has a $5.50 target price on the stock. The Company has appointed Steven M.
